In 1989, Fogarasi won the Hungarian Junior Chess Championship. During the 1991/92 season, he participated in the Chess Bundesliga for the SG Heidelberg-Kirchheim team. In 2004, he won the category V GM tournament in Budapest. In 2006, he represented Hungary in the European Chess Club Cup with the Aquaprofit NTSK team. He has also competed in several Hungarian Chess Championships.
Despite his achievements, Fogarasi remains critical of the way chess is played at the international level, raising questions about the ethics of set games, cheating, and the introduction of "poker elements" into the game to make it more commercial and spectator-friendly.
