Hovhannes Gabuzyan is an Armenian chess grandmaster, who received the title in 2011. He was born in 18 February 1995, in Vagharshapat, Armenia. He studied at the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture.


Gabuzyan has won numerous chess championships and tournaments, including the World Youth Chess Championships in 2005, the Pan-Armenian Games in 2009, European Individual Chess Championship in 2010, Armenian Junior Championship in 2011, and the World Junior Chess Championship in 2012.


He represented Armenia multiple times in World Team Chess Championships and European Team Chess Championships. In 2016, Gabuzyan won the Armenian Chess Championship. He also took part in the Chess World Cup 2017 but was eliminated in the first round.


In 2018, he migrated to the United States and played for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) chess team. Gabuzyan also won the Fall 2018 Collegiate Chess League for UTRGV.
