Joseph G. Gallagher is a Swiss English chess Grandmaster. He was born in London, UK, on May 4, 1964, and later moved to Neuchâtel, Switzerland. He won the British Chess Championship in 2001 and the Swiss Chess Championship in 1997 and 2004. Gallagher has also represented both countries in team competitions. He became an International Master in 1986 and a Grandmaster in 1990. He is known for his aggressive style of play and for his detailed understanding of the King's Indian Defence and the Sicilian Defence. Gallagher is also an author and co-author of several well-respected books on chess, including “The Magic of Mikhail Tal” and “Beating the Anti-King’s Indians.” He has also undertaken commentary duties at major events such as the Chess Classic in Mainz, Germany.
