Viktor Gavrikov was a Lithuanian-Swiss chess Grandmaster. He was born on 29 July 1957 in Criuleni, Moldovan SSR. Gavrikov initially represented the Soviet Union in chess and then changed his affiliation to Switzerland in 1993. In 1999, he changed his affiliation again and began representing Lithuania. Gavrikov won the Lithuanian Chess Championship in 2000.


As a junior player, Gavrikov won the Soviet Junior Chess Championship in 1977 and was awarded the International Master (IM) title the same year. He won the USSR Chess Championship in 1984 and was awarded the Grandmaster (GM) title the following year.


Gavrikov won multiple international tournaments, including the Capablanca Memorial in Havana in 1984, the Vidmar Memorial in Ljubljana in 1994, and tournaments in Marbella 2008 and in Barcelona 2013.


In team events, he represented his countries in six Chess Olympiads. He also took part in the first major internet-based chess tournament, Kasparov-Karpov v the Rest of the World, where the World Team won.


On 27 April 2016, Gavrikov died in Burgas, Bulgaria, aged 58.
