Tamaz Gelashvili is a notable chess Grandmaster from Georgia. He was awarded the International Master (IM) title in 1999, the Grandmaster (GM) title in 2001, and he has been representing Georgia in international tournaments since 1995. Gelashvili has won several major competitions including the 2001 Under-20 World Chess Championship and the 2002 Georgian Chess Championship.
In 2005, he won the Marshall Chess Club Championship, and in 2006, he finished second in the Manhattan Chess Club Championship. Gelashvili has also competed in numerous Chess Olympiads as a member of the Georgian national team. He continues to compete, as per rankings from FIDE, the world chess organization.
