Tiberiu-Marian Georgescu is a Romanian chess Grandmaster who earned the prestigious title in 1994. Born in Bucharest, Romania in 1974, he earned the title of International Master in 1991 before rising to the rank of Grandmaster. He took part in the Chess Olympiads three times (1992, 1994, and 1996), representing Romania on each occasion. Georgescu is also noted for winning the Romanian Chess Championship in 1997. Despite his achievements in chess, he decided to retire from active play in 2000 to focus on his academic career. Georgescu earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley, and went on to work as a mathematics professor, continuing to contribute to the world of academia.
