Krum Georgiev was born on February 25, 1958 in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, and he received the Grandmaster (GM) title in 1980.
Notable international chess competitions - Shared 1st–3rd places in the Bulgarian Championship in 1982, 1983, and 1985. He also shared the 1st place with Zoltán Ribli in the Albena tournament in 1984 and consecutively achieved 1st place in 1985 and 1986.
Another highlight of his career was his victory at Copenhagen in 1988. He further demonstrated his mastery at the game by sharing the 1st place with Iván Morovic and Tony Miles in Mar del Plata, in 1989.
Furthermore, in 1989, he was ranked 54th in the world. This feat remains a record high in his career.
Georgiev also made a significant contribution as a participating member of the Bulgarian team at the Chess Olympiads during the period 1982–2000.
