Diptayan Ghosh is an Indian chess player known for achieving the rank of grandmaster. He was born April 10, 1998 in Kolkata, and grew up displaying a prodigious talent for chess. Ghosh's father, Pradip, was instrumental in cultivating this talent, helping him practice from an early age.

His rise through the ranks was meteoric. By the time he was 8-years-old, Ghosh had won the Under-7 Indian National Championship, and by age 10 he'd secured his first International Master (IM) norm. He continued to accumulate these norms over subsequent years, becoming the second youngest International Master in the history of Indian chess at the time.

Ghosh continued to compete at a high level as he got older. He won the silver medal in the Under-14 category at the 2012 World Youth Chess Championship, securing his first Grandmaster norm in the process. He won the KIIT International Open in 2015 and the Under-18 category in the Asian Youth Chess Championship in 2016. These performances helped him reach the rank of Grandmaster, which he officially achieved in 2016.

Throughout his career, Ghosh has represented India in several high-profile tournaments. He played for the country in the World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad in 2013 and 2014, helping India win gold in both events. He also represented India at the Chess World Cup in 2017 and 2021.

Ghosh is generally well-regarded for his aggressive style of play. This aggressive approach has led to several high-profile victories throughout his career, including wins against multiple Grandmasters. In addition to his on-the-board success, Ghosh is also known for his academic achievements, and is currently pursuing a degree in commerce.
