Joseph Girel is a French chess grandmaster and one of the most decorated juniors of his generation in France: under-18 champion in 2022, under-20 champion in both 2023 and 2024, national collegiate champion in 2023 and French under-20 blitz champion the same year.

He earned his first Grandmaster norm winning the La Plagne Open in 2023, his second at the Agde Grand Prix Open that year, and his final norm at the Riga Technical University Open in 2024. In March 2024 he finished second in a Titled Tuesday tournament after drawing with Hikaru Nakamura in the final round.
