John Paul Gomez is a Filipino International Chess Grandmaster, who was born on 23rd December, 1986. He became an International Master in 2006 and was awarded the title of Grandmaster in 2010. Gomez has represented the Philippines in many major international chess tournaments, including the Chess Olympiads and the World Youth Chess Championships. He has won numerous national and international tournaments and consistently remains one of the top-ranked Filipino chess players.
In 2013, during the National Games held in Manila, Gomez defeated international master Rolando Nolte to win the men's rapid championship. He also contributed in the Philippines' bronze-medal finish in the 2012 Chess Olympiad in Istanbul. However, despite many attempts, Gomez has yet to secure his first National Championship title.
Apart from playing chess, Gomez is a chess coach and an engineer. He graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from Far Eastern University in Manila.
