Stephen J. Gordon is a British chess player who earned the title of Grandmaster (GM) in 2009. He was born in Oldham in the United Kingdom on October 4, 1986. Gordon learned to play chess at the early age of six and was quickly recognized for his talents.
In 2001, Gordon achieved his first recognition as a talented chess player when he tied for first place in the World Under-16 Championship. In 2002, he tied for first in the British Under-18 Championship. The following year, he won the British Under-21 Championship. He was then runner-up at the 2006 British Championship and, in 2008, once again tied for first in the same championship.
Gordon has represented England in multiple chess tournaments, including the 2006 Turin Olympiad and the 2005 European Team Chess Championships. Throughout his career, he has also participated in a variety of both domestic and international tournaments, such as the Cappelle-la-Grande Open and Gibraltar Masters.
Beyond playing chess, Stephen J. Gordon is also an author, having written a book on the Four Knights Game.
