Mikhail Gurevich is a Turkish-Belgian chess player who once held a world ranking of fourth place. Born in Kharkiv, Soviet Union in 1959, he won the Soviet Union Chess Championship in 1985 and boldly immigrated to Belgium the following year.


In 1991, he became Belgian chess champion and represented Belgium in several Chess Olympiads. His efforts led Belgium to its best result in the competition in 1992. Gurevich was also the runner-up in the 1990 Interzonal Tournament, a qualifier for the Chess World Championship.


Under Belgian citizenship, he earned the chess title of Grandmaster in 1986. In 1996, he held the European Champion title.


In 2005, he applied for Turkish citizenship and subsequently moved to Istanbul. Not long after, in 2006, he became Turkish chess champion. Currently, he spends his time coaching the Turkish youth chess team, even producing one world youth champion.


Gurevich was awarded the title of FIDE Senior Trainer in 2010 as his coaching career took off. Despite his age, he continues to participate in and win chess tournaments, attesting to his skillful play and esteemed reputation in the world of chess.
