Vladimir Gurevich is a Chess Grandmaster of Jewish descent. He was born on October 24, 1959 in Moscow, Russia.


Gurevich won numerous chess tournaments during his career. He moved to the United States in 1989, then the USSR. Later, he attained his Grandmaster title in 1994, following a victory at the 1991 World Open Chess Championship. From 1994 to 1997, Gurevich served as a chess trainer for the United States Chess Federation and was named "Grandmaster of the Year" by the World Chess Federation in 1998.


Gurevich has also worked as a computer engineer aside from his career in professional chess. He now resides in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, and he continues to stay active in the world of competitive chess. Currently, he is an International Arbiter, the highest level of chess refereeing.


In addition, Gurevich earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the National Research Nuclear University in Moscow in 1985. Subsequently, he received a Master's degree in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1996. He has worked extensively in the field of artificial intelligence, specifically on algorithms for automated reasoning.


Lastly, Gurevich has written numerous articles, reviews and books on various chess topics, including strategic planning and the history of chess. His writings have been published in several languages and are widely regarded within the international chess community.
