Gennadi Gutman is an International Chess Grandmaster, originally from Ukraine. He was born on March 21, 1945 and earned his Grandmaster title in 2002. Before becoming an international figure, he won the Asian Chess Championship in 1999. Despite being 57 years old at the time, he was still able to become a Grandmaster, which is an incredibly impressive feat in the world of chess. Prior to being a chess champion, Gutman had a background in physical education.



His career includes several major tournament victories, including the Australian Championships in 2006. Gutman was given the title of International Master in 1997 and, five years later, he became the oldest person to be awarded the Grandmaster title. He achieved this feat at the age of 57 years and 6 months old. It was during a tournament in Portugal where he secured his final GM norm.


He is also an acclaimed chess coach and has authored several chess literature. He has been referred to as "a deeply respected figure in international chess."
