Eric Hansen (born May 24, 1992) is a Canadian chess grandmaster and a popular chess broadcaster. Born in Irvine, California, he moved to Canada when he was young where he received his early chess instruction at the Calgary Chess Club.
He achieved a series of significant wins including becoming Alberta Chess champion in 2008, winning the Canadian Open Chess championship in 2011, and the Canadian Closed Chess Championship in 2012. After representing Canada at the 41st Chess Olympiad in 2014 and achieving a score of 8.5/10, he was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE.
In 2014, Hansen along with Grandmaster Robin Van Kampen created the online chess brand Chessbrah. They broadcast their games, analysis, and tournaments via platforms such as Twitch and YouTube. Hansen's chess playing style is aggressive.
Hansen has represented teams like the Montreal Chess Brahs and the Saint Louis Arch Bishops in the United States Chess League and the Pro Chess League respectively. He has achieved notable success in several international chess tournaments, and continues to be an active participant in competitive chess.
