Thies Heinemann is a popular International Chess Grandmaster from Germany. His exceptional performance in the Bavarian Chess Championship in 2005 won him the title "FIDE-Master". Heinemann achieved the title of International Master in 2006. He was also titled International Grand Master in the year 2010, making him one amongst the few players in the world to have obtained this respectable title.

Born on October 9, 1990, in Hamburg, Heinemann displayed his flair for chess at an early age and started with Merely Chess Union 03. His active participation in tournaments led to his success as a youth champion at Hamburg, Germany, before moving on to become a German Junior Vice Champion at 17.

His first club in the Chess Bundesliga was Hamburger SK, and he later shifted to SC Hansa Dortmund. He was part of the German national team and competed in the U-16 Chess Olympiad in 2006 and the Mitropa Cup held in 2007. He also represented SF Berlin 1903 in the 2nd Bundesliga in the north for 2012-2013 season.

Heinemann is also a respected FIDE trainer who trained the German national youth team and works as a chess coach for Hamburger SK and Friedrichshagen Chess school (Schachschule Friedrichshagen) in Berlin. Currently, he has established the Schachzentrum Friedrichshagen (Chess Centre Friedrichshagen), making chess more accessible to people of all ages. He has also conducted chess camps and contributes to the ChessBase magazine as an author. From 2016 onwards, he is the tournament director of the Vellmar Open Chess Championship.
