Dominik Horváth is a Grandmaster (GM) of chess from Switzerland. Horváth was born on November 12, 1991 in Bratislava, Slovakia and moved to Switzerland at the age of five. He grew up in a bilingual family and speaks Hungarian and German fluently. Horváth first learned to play chess at the age of four, under the guidance of his father Laszlo Horváth, who was a FIDE master.
In 2004, at the age of thirteen, Horváth won the Swiss Youth Chess championship. In 2007, he won the Swiss Championship U16 and placed 7th in the World Championship U16. In 2008, He won the Junior Championships U18 and placed 6th at the European Championship U18. In 2009, he was awarded the title of International Master (IM) after he won the First Saturday tournaments in Budapest.
Horváth was awarded the grandmaster title in 2011, at the age of 19, by the World Chess Federation (FIDE). He made his debut as the youngest Swiss Grandmaster in the Chess Olympiad of 2010. In 2015, he won the Swiss Rapid Chess and the Swiss Blitz Chess Championship. He also played for Switzerland in the European Team Championship 2015 and represented his country in the Chess Olympiads in 2010, 2012, and 2014.
