James C. Howell is a British chess International Master (IM) known for his contributions to the game. Born on 17th January 1967, he became one of the youngest individuals to earn the British Chess Championship title when he won it in 1997 at the age of 30.
In addition to the IM title, he has also been awarded the title of Grandmaster in correspondence chess. However, he didn't secure this status until 2000, 13 years after he achieved IM status.
Howell is also known as a prolific writer on chess, having contributed to Everyman Chess Series with his work "Essential Chess Endings: The Tournament Player's Guide."
Despite his achievements in and contributions to the game of chess, Howell has pursued a successful career in law and is currently an accomplished solicitor.
