Iniyan P. is an Indian chess player who was awarded the title of International Master (IM) in 2017 and that of Grandmaster (GM) in 2019 by the World Chess Federation, FIDE. He was born on February 13, 2002 in Erode, Tamil Nadu, India and is coached by Visweswaran K who was a former national rapid chess champion.


Iniyan showed a keen interest in the game from a very young age, having started playing when he was just 5 years old. By the age of 8, he was a national chess champion in his age category.


Some of his notable achievements include winning the silver medal in the Asian Youth Chess Championship in Kuwait, securing the bronze medal in the World Youth Chess Championship, both in 2013, and becoming State Junior Champion in 2014. He also won the open category of London Chess Classic Open FIDE Rated Chess Tournament in December 2017.


Iniyan achieved his third and final norm for the title of Grandmaster during the 37th edition of the "Bobby Fischer Memorial" International Chess Tournament held in Greece in March 2019.


Apart from his individual success, Iniyan P. also represented India multiple times in the World Youth Olympiad and the Asian Nations Cup.


In 2020, the youngster earned praise for putting together an online chess marathon with over 260 players to raise money for COVID-19 relief. It was recognized by the Golden Book of World Records as the World's Longest Marathon Chess by Individual.
