Alexander Ipatov (born July 16, 1993) is a Spanish chess grandmaster who was born in Ukraine. He was awarded the grandmaster title in 2011 when he was 18.


Ipatov is known for his victory at the World Junior Chess Championship in 2012. Following this, he was invited to play in the 2013 Chess World Cup, where he was eliminated in the second round by Alexander Areshchenko.


He served as the 7th President of the Association of Chess Professionals from 2015 to 2017.


In his early career, he took part in various chess tournaments, earning notable successes like winning the 2008 U16 European Youth Chess Championship, and coming third at the 2009 U18 World Youth Chess Championship.


Ipatov initiated his chess studies at the age of 4. At 8 years old, he already had victories in age category championships of Odessa and Ukraine.


He switched federations from Ukraine to Turkey in 2012, made possible by the sponsorship of the Turkish Is Bank. In 2019, he switched his federation again, this time from Turkey to Spain.
