Alexander Alexandrovich Ivanov is a Russian-born American chess Grandmaster. He was born on May 1st, 1956 in Omsk, Siberia and earned the title of Grandmaster in 1991. Ivanov has competed several times in the FIDE World Chess Championships, the U.S. Chess Championships, and the World Open Chess Championship, and has represented the U.S. at the Chess Olympiad. He reached his highest World Chess Federation ranking of 2592 in July 1998.
Ivanov moved to the United States in 1988. He has been a resident of Massachusetts since 1995 and has won the state championship multiple times. Ivanov garnered significant attention for his games against many notable players, including World Champions Garry Kasparov and Anatoly Karpov.
During his career, Ivanov has competed in numerous high-level tournaments, frequently achieving top-three finishes. He has also won several chess competitions, including the New England Chess Championship, the Continental Open, and the Philadelphia World Open.
