Božidar Ivanović is a notable chess player from Montenegro. Born on 27 September 1946 in Podgorica, he has received international recognition for his skills in the game, earning the title of grandmaster in 1980. He represented Montenegro and Yugoslavia internationally.


In 1973, he won Yugoslavia's second highest national championship, earning his first international master title. He was a regular chess competitor through the 1970s and 1980s, taking part in six Chess Olympiads, and winning the Montenegrin Chess Championship four times. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, he continued to play, but less frequently.


Apart from his sporting career, Ivanović has also been active politically. He served as the Minister of Sport in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) from 1991–1992, and from 1998–2000. Additionally, he was the president of the Chess Federation of Montenegro two times, and sat in numerous high-ranking positions within chess institutions, including the European Chess Union and the FIDE.
