Florian Jenni is a Swiss chess player who has held the Grandmaster title since 2006. Born on February 23, 1980, Jenni initially played at the junior level where he achieved notable success, winning the U10 at the European Schools Chess Championship in 1990 and the U16 Swiss Championship in 1996. He also notably represented Switzerland in four Chess Olympiads from 1996 to 2002, as well as two European Team Chess Championship in 1999 and 2001.
Jenni earned his FIDE Master title in 1997, the International Master title in 1998, and finally his Grandmaster title in 2006. His biggest win to date is the Swiss Chess Championship, which he won in 2002 and 2013.
Apart from his accomplishments as a player, Jenni also serves as the president of the Swiss Chess Federation. He is the owner of a Doctorate degree in theoretical physics from the University of Bern and has published a number of scientific articles on solid-state physics and quantum chemistry.
Jenni's peak world ranking was 237th, achieved in April 2006. He is currently one of the top-ranked players in Switzerland.
