Gawain Christopher Bernard Jones is a British chess Grandmaster and writer. He was born on December 11, 1987, in Keighley, West Yorkshire, England. Jones won the British Chess Championship in torquay in 2012, against fellow British Grandmaster Stephen Gordon, and again in 2017, in Llandudno.
Jones has achieved various significant milestones in his career. He won the Under-21 title in the European Youth Chess Championship of 2006 and the Under-18 title in the World Youth Chess Championship of 2007. He also came first in the 2010 Australian Open, the 2011 Bunratty Masters, and the 2012 Sydney International Open. In April 2017, Jones became the 9th highest-rated player in the United Kingdom.
Jones's parents, Graham and Sue Jones, introduced him to chess at the age of four following the methods of Richard James, co-founder of the Richmond Junior Chess Club. He achieved the Grandmaster title in 2007, making him the youngest Grandmaster in the world at that time.
Jones attended Leeds Grammar School and later studied mathematics at Bath University. He is married to Australian Woman International Master Sue Maroroa.
