Zoran Jovanović (1922-2001) was a Croatian chess player who earned the title of Grandmaster (GM) through an invitation, distinguishing him from those who achieved GM status via tournament play. Additionally, he is noted for winning the 1955 Yugoslav Chess Championship and tying for first place with three others in the 1961-62 Hastings Premier.
He was part of the team that won the European Team Chess Championships at Oberhausen in 1961 and in 1962 he reached his highest individual result in major tournaments when he shared the first place in Hastings tournament, though came second after a playoff.
Jovanović was also a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Zagreb and one of the leading experts on transmission lines. He published over 100 scientific papers in international and national journals and conferences.
Jovanović was not as active in chess after the mid-1960s and died in 2001.
