Chess Master Biography
Marián Jurčík is a Slovakian chess Grandmaster (GM), International Master (IM) and International Chess Coach. He won the Slovakian Chess Championship six times (1980, 1984, 1985, 1989, 1990, and 1994). Jurčík graduated from the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava in the 1980s with a degree in engineering, before going on to play in several Chess Olympiads. In 1991, he received his International Master (IM) title. Jurčík earned his Grandmaster (GM) title in 1992 after his strong performance at the international tournament in Bratislava.
Jurčík is also a chess coach. He coached Grandmaster Sergey Čudinovski of Belarus along with many other players, which includes the prominent likes of female GM and IM such as Ľubka Genova Štučková and Petra Papp, respectively. He lives in Chorvátsky Grob, Slovakia with his wife and their two daughters.
