Aleksandr Karpatchev (born 2 November 1956) is a prominent Russian international chess Grandmaster who was awarded the International Master title in 1982 and the Grandmaster title in 1995.
Karpatchev has competed in several successful chess tournaments. He won the international tournament in Dresden in 1989, came second at the Berlin Open in 1991 and 1996, and took the third place at the 2009 Czech Open.
Active even in his later years, Karpatchev continues to participate in competitive chess as part of the Hamburg Chess Club team in the German Chess Bundesliga.
A chess player since his youth, Karpatchev has also worked as a coach. Over the years, he has trained many grandmasters and international masters around the world.
