Sergey Kasparov is a Russian-born, Belarusian chess Grandmaster (GM). He was born on March 11, 1968, in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. Despite his surname, he is not related to chess World Champion Garry Kasparov. Sergey became a GM in 1989 and represented Belarus in nine Chess Olympiads, between 1994 and 2012.
His notable achievements include winning the Riga Technical University Open in 2011 and tying for first place at the 2005 international tournament in Dubai. He also won the 2008 Cappelle-la-Grande Open with accumulative points of 6½/9, topping a 604-player field tied with thirteen other players.
