Andreas Kelires is a Greek Cypriot chess player who earned the title of Grandmaster in 2018, making him the youngest Grandmaster in Greek history and the first ever Grandmaster from Cyprus. He was born on September 19, 2000.
Kelires learned chess at the age of 9 and his talent was recognized quickly. He won multiple championships and achieved vast success early in his career. In 2012, he won the European Championship U12 in Prague and in 2015, the World Youth Championship U16 in Greece.
The International Chess Federation, FIDE, granted him the title of FIDE Master in 2013, International Master in 2014, and Grandmaster in 2018.
He scored his first Grandmaster norm at the 33rd European Club Cup in Antalya, Turkey in 2017. The following year, he obtained his last two norms in just one month, in two major open tournaments in the Czech Republic.
