Alexey Kim is a Russian-born French chess player who holds the title of Grandmaster (GM), the highest title awarded by the International Chess Federation. He was born on April 25, 2000, in Kaliningrad, Russia. Kim moved to France at an early age. He is the seventh youngest grandmaster in French history.

In 2017, Kim switched his national federation to France. He initially competed in local and national youth championships, winning several titles. After moving to Paris for further study and chess training, his performance significantly improved. He obtained all three of his GM norms within a year, between September 2018 and September 2019.

Throughout his career, Kim has taken part in several international tournaments exhibiting noteworthy performances. Some of these include earning the ninth place at the French Chess Championship in 2019, having a 6.5/9 score at the 2019 French Junior Championship, and achieving a 7/9 score at the 2019 Vaujany International Chess Festival. Additionally, he was one of the most instrumental players who led the Tremblay-en-France club to the Top 12 French Team Championship in 2020.

Alexey Kim was awarded the Grandmaster title by FIDE (The International Chess Federation) in February 2020 based on his performance in the World Junior Chess Championship in India, which was held in October 2019. During this tournament, he also obtained his third and final GM norm.
