Zlatko Klarić is a Croatian chess Grandmaster. Born in Zagreb, Croatia on February 7, 1959, Klarić holds the title of Grandmaster (GM), which is the highest achievable lifetime title awarded by the World Chess Federation (FIDE).


Klarić earned the International Master title in 1980, and later, in 1982, was awarded the Grandmaster title. He was the first player from Croatia to hold the GM title after its independence.


Throughout his chess career, Klarić has won many tournaments. He claimed victory in Athens 1985, Copenhagen 1988, and Predeal 1991. He was also a two-time winner in Zrenjanin in 1990 and 1991, and triumphed at Pula in 2002.


In addition, Klarić has had a successful international team career. He represented Yugoslavia in the Chess Olympiads six times from 1980 through 1992 and took part in three European Team Championships during the same period.


Klarić has made significant contributions to the game of chess in his home country. He was the Chairman of the Commission for professional chess of the Croatian Chess Federation and the Head Coach of the Croatian Men's team.
