David Klein is a Dutch chess Grandmaster. He was born on 1 August 1993 in Haarlem. In 2009, he competed in the World Junior Chess Championship in Argentina.
Klein became a Grandmaster (GM) in 2014 after fulfilling the final norm in the Hastings International Chess Congress. The competition took place in Hastings, England. The achievement made him the 22nd Dutch chess player to become a GM.
Throughout his career, Klein has competed in several national and international competitions. In 2013, during the Dutch Championship, he came in third. Klein also participated in the European Rapid Chess Championship in 2014 and 2015, where he earned the 18th and 16th place respectively.
In 2015, Klein won the Leiden Chess Tournament. The following year, Klein had his best career performance at the 24th Leiden Open, where he shared first place with Predrag Nikolic. In 2019, Klein won the Dutch Internet Chess Championship.
In addition to his playing career, Klein coaches chess and has written articles about the game for chess magazines. He has also developed chess training materials and organized chess tournaments for children. In terms of his playing style, Klein has been described as a positional player, favoring solid set-ups and gradual buildup of advantages over aggressive play.
