Despite his proficiency in chess, Kobo has focused more on his academic pursuits. He received his master's degree in computer science from Tel Aviv University and a PhD in computer science from the University of Haifa. His research focuses on the use of algorithms and machine learning in the field of chess. Kobo has published several articles on the topic and has taught computer science at the academic level. He has also been able to combine his two passions by using his computer science knowledge to develop chess software.
Outside of his academic and chess career, Kobo is known for his social activism. He is an outspoken critic of the Israeli government's policies towards the Palestinians. He has used his platform as a prominent chess player to advocate for peace and justice.
