Alexander Vitalyevich Kochyev is a Russian chess Grandmaster. He was born 12 November 1956 in Russia.


Kochyev was awarded the title of International Master (IM) in 1981 and the Grandmaster (GM) title in 1990 by the International Chess Federation (FIDE). He has represented Russia in several international tournaments and World Chess Championships, including the World Senior Chess Championship, where he earned a notable win.



Beyond his achievements as a chess player, Kochyev has also authored a number of chess textbooks, and holds a PhD in pedagogical sciences.


His game against Semen Dvoirys in the 55th USSR Championship in 1988 is one of his most notable performances and is considered one of the best masterpieces in his professional career.
