Dmitry Kononenko is a Ukrainian chess player who was awarded the title of Grandmaster (GM) by FIDE in 2013. He was born on May 7, 1988. He achieved his first international success by winning an open tournament in Vovchansk, Ukraine in 2009. He also clinched victory at the international tournament in Lublin, Poland in 2013. Kononenko represented Ukraine in the European Team Chess Championship in 2015.


In 2014, Kononenko won the Ukrainian Chess Championship, and in 2015, he won the rapid section of the Paul Keres Memorial in Tallinn. He took part in the Chess World Cup 2015, where he was defeated by Evgeny Najer in the first round. Kononenko participated in the 18th European Individual Chess Championship in 2017, and later in 2019, he tied for second place at the RTU Open in Riga.
