Petr Kostenko is a Kazakhstan chess Grandmaster and the first Kazakh to achieve this title. He achieved his Grandmaster title in 1997. Kostenko was born on 1st December 1961 in Frunze, the capital city of the Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic, which is present-day Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Having been trained extensively in the game of chess, Kostenko won the Kazakhstan Chess Championship multiple times, and achieved various wins at significant international competitions. In 2003, he won Irish Chess Championship and in 2006, he represented Kazakhstan at the 37th Chess Olympiad.

Petr also plays internet chess, where he is known for his strong blitz performances. He has also served as a coach for the Kazakhstan Women's team.
