Pavel Kotsur is a Kazakhstani International Grandmaster (GM) in chess who continues to be professionally active. Born on March 07, 1974, in Russia, he became a chess grandmaster in 2000. In addition to his accomplishments in chess, Kotsur is also a FIDE Trainer.
Kotsur won the championship of Kazakhstan in 2000, succeeding fellow grandmaster Darmen Sadvakasov. In 2001, Kotsur achieved another significant milestone by winning the prestigious Nakhchivan Open tournament. After this, he proceeded to win the prestigious Russian Cup in 2006.
While he was mostly known for his participation in local tournaments in Kazakhstan and Russia, Kotsur has also represented his country in international chess competitions. This includes the Chess Olympiad, where he has played for Kazakhstan six times since 2002. His most recent appearance was at the 43rd Chess Olympiad in 2018.
