Blažimir Kovačević is a Croatian chess player who was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 1999. Born on 23 November 1961, he initially represented Yugoslavia in international competitions until the breakup of the country, after which he played for Croatia.
At the junior level, Kovačević secured the 2nd place in the Yugoslav Under-20 Championship in 1981, and the 1st place in the U26 Championship of Yugoslavia in 1982. He won the national championship of Croatia in 2005, 2007, and 2013.
Kovačević has represented Croatia in multiple Chess Olympiads. His participation in the Chess Olympiads started in 1998 and extended till 2014. His most successful was the 2008 Olympiad in Dresden, where he scored 6½/9 points, playing fifth board for the Croatian team.
