Temur Kuybokarov is a leading chess Grandmaster from Uzbekistan. Born on 22 August 2000 in Tashkent, he achieved the FIDE Master title in 2012 and later the International Master title in 2015. In July 2019, he was awarded the Grandmaster title by FIDE.
Kuybokarov has participated in various national and international chess tournaments, demonstrating sustained competitiveness and strong skills. Notable among his achievements was winning the Australian Open Chess Championship in 2019. In 2018, he also won the Vezerkepzo GM tournament in Budapest, Hungary.
Kuybokarov moved to Australia in 2018 to join his mother who had immigrated there a few years earlier. He initially lived in Perth but later moved to Melbourne. After the move to Australia, he continued to officially represent Uzbekistan but later switched allegiance to represent Australia in 2020. Kuybokarov has set several records in Australian chess history, including becoming the youngest ever player to win the Australian Open.
