Pablo Lafuente is a chess player originally from Argentina. Born on November 10, 1981, he achieved the rank of Grandmaster in 2008 and has represented multiple countries throughout his career, including Argentina, Spain, and currently Ireland. Lafuente has competed and achieved notable success in many international tournaments, including the World Chess Championship.


While formally starting his career in his home country, Lafuente became a naturalized citizen of Spain in 2005, applying a second change of federation to the FIDE in 2007. After moving to Galway in Ireland, he represented the country from 2015. Interestingly, he has also taught chess in Guernsey alongside his partner, Woman FIDE Master (WFM) Cristina García.


Lafuente's most notable achievements include representing Argentina in the FIDE World Chess Championships in 2004, and again in 2007 when he represented Spain. He also achieved success in the 81st Irish Championship in 2015, winning the tournament and becoming the first player to win both the Irish and Argentine championships.


Beyond his playing career, Lafuente is also involved in chess education and writer. He has authored various articles on chess tactics, strategy, and history, contributing to chess-related publications and fostering a culture of learning within the chess community.
