Rafael Duailibe Leitão is a Brazilian chess grandmaster. He was born on December 28, 1979, in Santa Luzia, Maranhão, Brazil. Leitão has represented Brazil in various international competitions and has numerous accolades to his credit.



In his chess career, he achieved his grandmaster title in 1997, which made him the youngest Brazilian to attain the high rank,being just 18 at the time. In 1998, he made his debut in his first Chess Olympiad in Elista, Kalmykia. He has made a notable contribution to the Brazilian performance in various chess Olympiads.


Outside of his competitive chess career, Leitão is known to stay active in the chess community by contributing as a chess writer. He authored a book titled 'How to Play the English Opening' and owns a website where he offers online chess coaching.
