Aleksandr Lenderman is an American chess Grandmaster. He was born on September 23, 1989 in Leningrad, USSR, and moved with his family to New York when he was four. Lenderman started playing chess at the suggestion of a friend at the age of ten, and quickly rose in competitive rankings. In 2001, he won the New York State Scholastic Championship.
Lenderman reached the rank of National Master at the age of 16 in 2006. After winning the under-16 Pan American Youth Championship in Uruguay, Lenderman earned an International Master title in 2007. He was awarded the Grandmaster title in 2009 by the World Chess Federation (FIDE).
Lenderman has had success in various tournaments, including the World Open, the US Chess League, and the World Team Chess Championship. In 2017, he finished second in the U.S. Championship, one of the top annual national chess championships.
From 2014-2017, Lenderman was part of the American team that competed in the 41st, 42nd and 43rd Chess Olympiads. He currently coaches and plays chess professionally in New York City. He also offers chess lessons online and contributes to the Internet Chess Club, an online chess playing site. Lenderman is known for his humble demeanor and dedication to the game.
