Evgeny A. Levin is a Russian composer of chess problems and an International Arbiter. He is particularly known for his work in endgame studies. Levin was born in Saratov, Russia on August 6, 1931. His education was focused in philology and he worked as a radio journalist and publicist.


Levin's first chess problem was published in 1955, and since then he has published about 140 problems. Many of his compositions have won awards in international competitions. In 1976, Levin was awarded the title of International Judge for Chess Compositions by FIDE – The International Chess Federation. In 1983, he published a compilation book of chess problems he has composed.


Levin also worked as an arbiter, running official chess competitions and ensuring that the rules of the game are fairly followed. He has been recognized for his work in this area by the International Chess Federation, which granted him the title of International Arbiter in 1977.


Today, Levin continues his chess-related pursuits. He is still composing new chess problems and has also worked to promote the game's popularity in Russia.
