Lu has accomplished several significant milestones in his chess career. In 2010, he won the World Under-16 Championship. Afterward, in 2014, he won the World Junior Chess Championship. He represented his nation at the 41st Chess Olympiad in 2014, becoming one of the youngest members of China’s national team. At the event, Lu won a silver medal.
He also won the individual gold medal while representing the University of Texas, Dallas at the 2015 Pan-American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship. He also played a significant role in China's gold medal win at the 2015 World Team Chess Championship.
