Andrey Lunev is a Russian chess Grandmaster who was born on September 30, 1969. In 1990, he secured the title of International Master, a stepping stone to the Grandmaster title which he won in 2003. Lunev's performances in various national and international competitions are listed, including the Chigorin Memorials, Russian Championship, Aeroflot Open, State Farm, and the 32nd Chess Olympiad.
He also worked in collaboration with Grandmaster and former World Chess Champion, Anatoly Karpov and was described by Karpov as his successor. This is especially notable as Karpov has rarely made such statements.
Lunev retired from competitive chess in 2012 and has developed a second career as a consultant in the finance industry.
