Ma Qun is a Chinese chess grandmaster. He was born on June 28, 1991 in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, China. May earned his international master (IM) title in 2008. Later on, he gained his grandmaster (GM) title in 2013.
Ma Qun has done well in both national and international chess tournaments throughout his career. In 2012, he won the Asian Junior Championship, and in 2013, he came in second place in the Chinese Chess Championship. In 2015, he won the traditional Hastings International Chess Congress.
Ma Qun was part of the Chinese team that won the World Team Chess Championships in 2015. He played six games, drawing three and losing three but still acquired a gold medal as part of the winning team.
He was also a member of the Chinese team in the 2016 Chess Olympiad, which achieved fourth place. Ma Qun had an impressive individual performance in the tournament with 7½ points out of a possible 10.
