Vadim Malakhatko is a Ukrainian chess grandmaster, born on 22 November 1977. He became an International Master in 1995 and a Grandmaster in 1998. Malakhatko won the 2006 Carl's Buys Memorial in Ostend. He has also achieved notable successes by winning or sharing first place in several international tournaments such as 1998 Paris Open, 1998 Santana Tournament, 2001 Edinburgh Open, 2002 Bled Open, and the 2004 Liege Open.


In 2012, following a period of inactivity, Vadim returned to competitive chess and emerged victorious in the 2012 Luc Open in Lille, France. He has also appeared with success at several team events including Polish Team Championships, Greek Team Championships, Greek Cup, the European Club Cup, and the French Team Championship.


He is married to Russian Woman Grandmaster (WGM) Anna Zozulia. They moved to Belgium when Malakhatko faced issues with the Ukrainian Chess Federation regarding selection for national team and lack of financial support.
