Rauf Mamedov is a chess grandmaster from Azerbaijan. He was born on April 26, 1988, in Baku. He received his Grandmaster title at the age of 15 in 2004, making him one of the youngest ever to achieve this. Mamedov has achieved notable success in major tournaments, both individually and as part of the national team.


Mamedov's early successes include winning the World Youth Championship (U20) in 2005 and the Azerbaijani Championship in 2006 and 2008. He also played a key role in winning the European Team Championship in 2009 and 2013 for Azerbaijan.



Individually, some of his achievements include winning the 42nd Bosna International Tournament, the Nakhchivan Open in 2014, the European Blitz Championship in 2015 and the Gashimov Memorial in 2015, where he upset numerous higher-ranked players.



In addition to his career as a player, he has also worked as a coach. Since 2015, he has been the coach of the Azerbaijani women's team at the Women's Chess Olympiads. The national team managed to win their first ever Olympiad medal (silver) in 2016 under his coaching. He also coached the team at the European Women's Championship in 2017, where they won their maiden European Team Championship.


Mamedov is known for his aggressive and creative style of play. He has performed exceptionally in gambits and tactics.
