Sandro Mareco is an Argentine chess player who holds the title of Grandmaster (GM), which he was awarded by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in 2009. Born in Buenos Aires on May 13, 1987, he started his professional career in 2009 and has since participated in several important international tournaments.


In 2008, Mareco won both the Argentine Under-20 Championship and the Central American and Caribbean Under-20 Championship in a row. In the same year, he was a member of the Argentine team that took third place in the World Youth U-16 Chess Olympiad.


In 2015, Mareco won the International Open of Cannes in France and later in 2016, he emerged as the winner of the traditional tournament held in Mar del Plata and the American Continental Championship. In 2017, Mareco took first place in both the Barcelona Open and Salou Open chess tournaments.


Mareco has also participated multiple times in the Chess Olympiad, representing Argentina, where his team ranked 4th in 2014 and 6th in 2018.
