Mihail Marin is a Romanian chess Grandmaster. Born on April 21, 1965, in București, Romania, he achieved the grandmaster title in 1993 and also works as a chess author and translator.


As a player, Marin has won multiple championships including the Romanian Championships in 1988, 1994, and 1999. He has also competed successfully in international tournaments such as Berlin 1988, Graz 1988, and Dortmund 1992. Marin also represented Romania in multiple Chess Olympiads over the years, with his final participation occurring in 2004.


As an author, Marin has written several books on chess that have been well received in the chess community. His most acclaimed works include 'Secrets of Chess Defence', 'Learn from the Legends', and 'The English Opening'. Marin's book 'Learn from the Legends' was a bestseller and won the 2005 ChessCafe Book of the Year. In addition to this, he is a regular contributor to chess publications, including ChessBase Magazine.


As a translator, Marin translates English and German chess books into his native Romanian.


In 2005, he was awarded the title of FIDE Senior Trainer, meaning he is recognised as one of the world's top chess instructors.
